With a career spanning over an impressive 33 years, Mr. P. Matthew Darby is well respected in his field for his wealth of knowledge and experience representing Railroad Workers in Personal Injury Traumatic Injuries under FELA, Occupational Claims under FELA and Workers Compensation.
He is the founding Partner of the Darby Law Group, LLC, a leading Maryland based law-firm specializing in representing union members in Workers’ Compensation and Personal Injury related matters.
Mr. Darby is a proud graduate of Loyola University, Baltimore, where he received his bachelor’s degree. After deciding he wanted to pursue Law, he went on to enroll at the University of Maryland School of Law in 1988 where he received his Juris Doctor Degree. He was subsequently admitted into both the Maryland State Bar and Pennsylvania State Bar.
Upon finishing his legal education, Mr. Darby was proud to take on a role at Semmes, Bowen & Semmes Defense Firm and following on from this he moved on to another respected role at Albertini and Darby. Subsequently, Mr. Darby practiced as an Attorney and Founding Partner at Berman Sobin Gross Feldman & Darby LLP where he specialized in working with railroad workers in the instances of personal injury, whistleblowing and certification as well as engineer and conductor certification petitions covering the areas of Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Maine, Florida, District of Columbia, Massachusetts, Texas, North Carolina and South Carolina.
In his current role, Mr. Darby is the Founding Partner of his own law firm, the Darby Law Group LLC. The firm prides itself in protecting the rights of firefighters, teachers, law enforcement officers, communication workers and transportation and warehouse workers, among others. The firm is based in Maryland and handles work-related and personal injury matters throughout the State. The experienced team at the Darby Law Group is committed to providing the highest level of client service and to protecting the interests and well being of their clients and their families. The firm is dedicated in acting on behalf of their clients and handling public safety employees’ cases, including accidental inquiries and occupational illnesses.
In a continuous effort to broaden his knowledge and status, Mr. Darby maintains memberships with the following professional associations: Board of Managers of the Academy of Rail Labor Attorneys, The Workers’ Compensation and Insurance Oversight Committee of the Maryland Legislature and legal counsel of SMART and the Brotherhood of Railroad Signalmen. He is also a serving member of the United & Transportation Union as a Designated Legal Counsel.
Additionally, Mr. Darby aids Firefighters in cases of Workers Compensation as he was previously the founding Chairman, as well as serving on the Board of Directors of the Maryland Association for Justice Workers Compensation Department. He was also previously involved with Maryland Workers’ Compensation Medical Fee Guide Committee. When reflecting on his professional accolades, Mr. Darby is honored to have been acknowledged by Super Lawyers for an impressive 12 years between 2008-2020 and he is privileged to have received an industry rating by Martindale-Hubbell.
Mr. Darby attributes his continued success to the memory of his father Perry E. Darby, who was an inspirational Lawyer that influenced his own choice of career path by instilling a passion for law. He also pays credit to Rudolph L. Rose and Guy M. Albertini.
In his time outside of practicing Law, Mr. Darby keeps active by rock climbing and scuba diving. He also has a keen interest in history, World War II in particular, gold, black Cadillacs and is also a football fanatic supporting the Baltimore Ravens.
Mr. Darby also commits his time to supporting the charity ‘Kids’ Chance of Maryland, Inc.’, an organization set up to provide ongoing opportunities for children of injured workers, enabling them to go to prestigious higher education institutions.
